GLOSSARY
Atelier
One who works in a studio and actually oversees the reproduction process.
A/P = Artist Proof
Pre-production quantity for approval by the Artist.
Certificate of Authenticity
Proof that the master printer or atelier produced the artwork within the limited edition quantity as specified. The Certificate list the Artist by name, the Title of the artwork, a production date and a serial number.
Gallery Wrap
The canvas is wrapped around stretcher bars, usually 1.5 inches deep. Where practical, the image continues around the stretcher bars. If not practical, then a charcoal gray color continues from the image edge and wraps around the stretcher bars. All fastening is on the back and a hanger wire is installed. The artwork is ready for wall mounting without a frame.
Gicleé (zhee-clay)
Artwork created using high-pigment-content inks and archival quality canvas or paper. A good gicleé reproduction should appear as one and the same as the original piece of art with regard to design and color.
Limited Edition
Only a limited number of a particular artwork will be produced. After that, the artwork will only be available in the re-sale or “after-market”.
Personal Stamp
A symbol or design chosen and controlled by the artist is stamped next to his/her signature.
Plate-signed
The signature of the artist is reproduced within the "painted" portion of the artwork. In addition the Artist may initial or place a personal stamp next to their signature.
S/N = Signed and Numbered
Each piece is [S] signed by the Artist or “plate-signed” and individually [N] numbered with the limited edition maximum number shown.
Signed on Verso
Verso means on the backside and as silly as it may sound, Recto means on the front side.
